Lifesaving addition to Charter Academy

Great Yarmouth Charter Academy pupils have helped secure a life-saving piece of equipment for the local community.

The school has helped fundraise for a community defibrillator alongside local charity Heart 2 Heart Norfolk.

The machine, housed in a distinctive yellow box, has now been installed on the wall outside the Salisbury Road academy to help provide emergency first aid for pupils, staff, and the public nearby.

The cabinet can be unlocked through a phone call to the emergency services, and the machine inside can automatically help revive someone who has suffered a sudden cardiac arrest - without needing any medical training.

The academy has also worked with the charity to arrange first aid training for pupils, with 60 children being taught how to provide lifesaving treatment through Restart A Heart Day in October.
