Pupils from Great Yarmouth Charter Academy, who form a dedicated Youth Panel, recently embarked on an exhilarating two-day residential trip during the Easter holidays. This initiative, in collaboration with local charity NRThirty and youth charity MAP, aims to amplify the voices of young people and foster opportunities for youth in the Great Yarmouth area.

The residential trip, held at Thorpe Woodlands Adventure Centre, was packed with thrilling activities such as canoeing, ziplining, and caving. These activities not only provided the pupils with a much-needed break but also helped them build teamwork and leadership skills.

Summer Beckett, the lead youth worker for MAP, expressed her enthusiasm about the trip: "This residential was a fantastic opportunity for our young people to step out of their comfort zones and engage in activities that build confidence and resilience. It's inspiring to see their dedication to making a positive impact in their community."

During the trip, the Youth Panel had the chance to connect with members of the steering group, share their ideas, and explore innovative ways to bring the Great Yarmouth community closer together. Sean Powell, Senior Vice Principal of Great Yarmouth Charter Academy and Chair of the Steering Group for NRThirty, highlighted the importance of such initiatives: "Our Youth Panel has shown incredible commitment over the past year, contributing to various important events and projects. This residential was a well-deserved break and an opportunity for them to recharge before the exciting launch of the NRThirty website. Their insights and energy are crucial in driving our mission to engage more young people in the community."

The Youth Panel's efforts over the past year have been instrumental in shaping several key events and projects, such as the reopening of the Winter Gardens, and the development of safe spaces within the local area and development of St George's Park to name but a few; making a significant impact on the local community. As they gear up for the launch of the NRThirty website, their dedication continues to inspire and pave the way for greater youth involvement in Great Yarmouth.

This residential trip not only celebrated their hard work but also set the stage for future initiatives that will further strengthen the bonds within the community and create more opportunities for young people to thrive.
