On Wednesday 4th June 2025, a group of exceptional students from Great Yarmouth Charter Academy proudly represented their school and community at Norwich County Hall. The event brought together young people from across Norfolk to share their views and help shape the county’s curriculum and support services for young people.

Our Youth Panel—Lleyton, Jonah, Johnny, Mason, Jayson, Henry, Anya, and Amy—demonstrated remarkable confidence and insight throughout the day. The event began with a powerful presentation in the Council Chambers, where Lleyton, Jonah, Johnny, Mason, and Jayson spoke passionately about the biggest issues facing young people today. Their presentation addressed vaping, financial literacy, future careers, sun safety, and relationship abuse—topics they identified as vital to the wellbeing of their generation.

Throughout the day, the students actively participated in workshops and discussions with Norfolk County Council’s Children’s Services team. They shared thoughtful feedback and practical ideas on how schools and local authorities can better support young people to lead safe, healthy, and fulfilling lives.

Mrs. Gray, PSHE Lead at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy, praised the students’ contributions:

“Our Youth Panel were a credit to the school. They spoke with honesty, maturity, and passion about the real challenges young people face. Their voices were heard loud and clear, and I couldn’t be prouder of the way they represented themselves and their peers.”

A highlight of the day was the individual and paired video interviews, where students reflected on their experiences. Johnny’s contribution stood out, with council staff praising his heartfelt comments—especially his recognition of the support he’s received from the school.

Reflecting on the experience, Youth Panel member Jonah said:

“Speaking in the Council Chambers was nerve-wracking at first, but once we started, it felt amazing to be heard. It’s not every day you get to stand where decisions are made and share what really matters to people our age.”

We are incredibly proud of all the students involved. Their voices are helping to shape a brighter, more responsive future for young people across Norfolk. If you see Lleyton, Jonah, Mason, Henry, Anya, Amy, Johnny, or Jayson around school, please join us in congratulating them on their fantastic achievement.
