Future Engineers Wanted: Year 9 Discover How UTC Norwich Can Shape their Career
Back
This week, our Year 9 scholars were visited by representatives from University Technical College Norfolk (UTCN), inviting our young people to join their specialist engineering pathways from September 2026. UTCN offers a unique curriculum for students aged 14–19, combining academic study with hands-on technical learning in state-of-the-art facilities. Their mission is clear: to prepare young people for the future of work in engineering, science, health, and technology sectors which strongly aligns with our academy values.
Why UTCN?
Students at UTCN benefit from a curriculum designed in partnership with leading employers, ensuring that learning is relevant and career-focused. Courses such as the T Level in Engineering and Manufacturing provide the equivalent of three A Levels and include an extended industry placement, giving students real-world experience alongside their studies.
Pupils can progress into a wide range of careers in our local area, including:
- Mechanical and Electrical Engineering
- Aerospace and Automotive Design
- Construction and Project Management
- Health and Science Technologies
Many pupils in our alumini secure university places, supported by our strong employer links. Past pupils have gone on to work with companies such as Rolls-Royce, EDF Energy, British Sugar, Caterpillar, and Aquaterra Energy.
Local Business Partnerships
by partnering with UTCN, we plan to work closely with local and national businesses to create apprenticeship routes and higher education opportunities. Employers such as Morgan Sindall Construction, Swift Aircraft, and Proeon Systems regularly collaborate with UTCN to provide placements and career pathways. These partnerships ensure that students gain the skills and experience needed for success in the modern workforce.
