World Book Day at at our academy yesterday (5th March), brought stories to life with ‘Story in a Day,’ a lively costume line‑up, and brilliant book‑themed bakes.

This week, we celebrated World Book Day with a whole‑school ‘Story in a Day’, a lunchtime library photo call, a break‑time cake competition, and plenty of costumes that kept books front and centre.

World Book Day is all about sharing the joy of reading, and this year we did exactly that. Guided by our English team, the day wove stories into lessons, corridors and conversations across the academy.

Throughout the day, classes enjoyed a shared read of Roald Dahl’s short story “The Landlady”, split into four bite‑size sections so everyone could join in and sparked discussion about plot twists, clues and character motives, reminding us how a well‑told story can engage everyone in just a few minutes.

Staff brought the fun to the hall with a costume line‑up and at lunch, colleagues gathered in the library to judge a cake baking competition alongside avid readers, keeping the day’s centre of gravity exactly where it belongs: among books and readers. Our book‑themed cake competition showcased incredible imagination. A meticulous mystery‑novel cake, complete with red “case‑file” string and coloured pins gathered a lot of attention!

Huge thanks to Ms Baldry for coordinating the day and to Miss Walker our librarian for resourcing our ‘Story in a Day’. Thank you as well to every member of staff who dressed up, read aloud, baked, supervised, and made space for pupils to talk about what they love to read. Days like this remind us that reading is social, creative and for everyone. Let's keep the reading habit going—drop into the Library, explore recommendations, and join our clubs. Your next favourite book is waiting.
