Year 11 step up their revision game with Dr Tej Samani
Back
Our brilliant Year 11 English Literature students are leaning into the final run‑in to May with energy, resilience and a positive mindset. This week, they've been learning memory and exam‑preparation techniques with Dr Tej Samani, founder of Performance Learning.
Our pupils never miss a chance to improve. This is about sharpening the how of revision as much as the what, and our Year 11 are absolutely up for it.
Performance Learning’s research shows that targeted work on the metacognitive side of learning (motivation, self‑regulation, study routines) can help predict and improve outcomes. Dr Samani has spent over a decade developing and deploying Performance Learning across schools, with his methods and tools written up in peer‑reviewed outlets and used widely in schools in the UK
Practising short “brain‑dump” bursts, low‑stakes quizzes and flashcards done from memory, retrieval practice is one of the most robust, research‑backed ways to boost long‑term retention, lower exam anxiety, and close knowledge gaps.
What stands out most is the attitude of our Year 11s. They’ve shown real commitment, turning up and applying every strategy we’ve offered this year. Sessions like this are only powerful because our pupils make them powerful through their effort and curiosity. We’re proud of the way they seize every opportunity to improve.
We wish every one of you the very best of luck for the final stretch, you’ve got this.
