Great Yarmouth Charter Academy has been entertaining the town this week as the school brought together an ambitious production of We Will Rock You. The musical had its sell-out opening night on Wednesday 8th February and ran for three nights until Friday the 10th of February.

Joe Edwards-Gill, Head of Performing Arts at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy said:

“We are so proud of how far all of our performers have come, they have shown true professionalism and a willingness to learn and work hard to master their parts in this musical. There hasn’t been a production here for a number of years and we have proved that this is a return to form, we are excited and hopeful to emulate this success next year with our next production.”

We Will Rock You is a musical written by Ben Elton, containing many songs from the rock band Queen. Set in a distant future where free thought, fashion and live music are a thing of the past. The musical follows a group of Bohemians as they restore rock and roll to its former glory.

Galileo Figaro is a boy confused by his constant dreaming, seeing words and poetry in his dreams. When he is discovered and captured for his free thought and expression, he teams up with Scaramouche as they escape and from there begins their journey to freedom. Under the rule of the Killer Queen alongside her loyal Commander Khashoggi, Galileo and Scaramouche befriend characters of Britney Spears, Meatloaf and Paul McCartney along the journey, assisting them to unlock the secrets of rock and roll.

The show was filled with musical numbers that were performed by a wonderful cast that sang, danced and acted throughout the show. Accompanied by professional lighting and sound it was amazing to see the pupils enjoying this opportunity. For many, it would have been the first time they had been involved in a performance of this magnitude and it was a great experience for them.

With many standout performances from young people at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy, all the pupils and staff involved have lots to be proud of.

Students across Inspiration Trust schools have the opportunity to take part in performances, musicals and concerts.
