Parents of students at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy now have access to a new innovative application that allows them to see live information about their child's progress, attendance, and school events. The academy hosted its first parent engagement event to launch the app and give parents a chance to learn more about how it works.

The app, which was developed by the school's management and information system, My Child At School, is designed to give parents a more convenient way to stay up-to-date on their child's academic performance, behaviour, attendance and personal development at school. With the app, parents can log in to see real-time updates on their child's grades, attendance record, and upcoming school events.

Kerrie Nichols, Head of Year 7, who also has children who attend the school said, "We're excited to launch this new app and offer parents a more streamlined way to stay connected with their child's school experience," Mrs Nichols, who supported the event listened and worked alongside parents to install and get to know the functions of the app; parents were able to access information they never could before, and went on to say, "We believe that by giving parents access to this kind of information, we can help them play a more active role in their child's education. Parents I spoke to were delighted to see this information arrive before their child comes home each day"

At the parent engagement event, parents had the opportunity to meet with parents who already use the app, as well as teachers and school leaders to ask questions and learn more about how the app works. They also took part in a live demonstration of the app and see first-hand how it can benefit them and their child.

Sean Powell, Senior Vice Principal, is overseeing the development of communication and pupils’ personal development said,

"We encourage every parent to attend these series of evenings to learn more about the school, and they part we each play in developing our young people to reach their aspirations. Attendance and their participation in school life beyond the classroom is critical to this aim. ‘My Child At School’ is exciting new tool that we believe will help strengthen the relationship between parents, pupils, and our school."

The parent engagement event took place on Tuesday 21st November. The next event is for parents of Year 7 children to meet the pastoral team and tutors on Monday 4th December from 17:00 in the school's main hall. You are invited to join us for introductions and delicious refreshments. All are welcome!
