As the holiday season approaches, and many families are planning our festive menus, pupils have signed up to a series of masterclasses looking at creating the perfect showstopper for Christmas - a traditional home made Christmas Cake! Dozens of pupils are looking to impress their festive guests with a show-stopping dessert, and our Christmas Cake Spectacular masterclasses are now oversubscribed!

This three-week series of classes will teach scholars on everything they need to know to create a beautiful and delicious Christmas cake. On Wednesday 22nd Nov, our first class focused on the creaming method, which is an essential technique for making a rich and moist fruit cake.

Pupils learnt how to properly cream butter and sugar together to create a light and fluffy base for their cake to take home before the break. They also learnt how to incorporate eggs and flour to create a perfectly balanced batter. With this knowledge, they were well underway to creating the perfect fruit cake!

But that's not all. Over the next two weeks, our young chefs will learn about other important techniques, such as soaking your fruit, using spices, and decorating. By the end of the course, they’ll have all the skills they need to create a truly spectacular Christmas cake for every season to come.

Amanda Buckenham, Curriculum Leader for Technology said,

"I am thrilled to see so many pupils signing up for our Christmas Cake Spectacular masterclasses. It's a fantastic opportunity for them to develop their love and skill for food and nutrition beyond their weekly lessons, thanks to the support and generosity of the Great Yarmouth Grammar School Foundation for supporting our masterclasses".

So if you're ready to take your baking skills to the next level, sign up for our next cookery masterclasses in the Spring!
